I believe local government must ensure that voices are heard and decisions are made transparently. In my view, the City Council has struggled with this for many years. I will bring a new perspective to the Council and a renewed focus on listening to the community.
The city has started a new comprehensive plan: More for Morris 2050. This process needs to balance retaining what is strong in our community with a bold vision of a future we can be proud of. I want to ensure that the many different viewpoints in our community feel heard.
The Council should be clear about how and why they make decisions. Meetings can be long and some issues are complicated or mundane. If the community can’t understand why decisions are being made, however, it leads to a lack of trust.
Morris has some amazing public parks. We don’t have enough shared common spaces. When elected, I would seek opportunities to use existing spaces or create new spaces, for the community to gather.
